Proportion of fish stocks within biologically sustainable limits ( BBA )

This indicator is proposed as an indicator for Sustainable Development Target 14.4 By 2020, effectively regulate harvesting and end overfishing, illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and destructive fishing practices and implement science-based management plans, in order to restore fish stocks in the shortest time feasible, at least to levels that can produce maximum sustainable yield as determined by their biological characteristics

FAO has estimates for 584 fish stocks around world, representing 70% of global landings.

FAO has maintained and reported this indicator since 1974. The assessment is done at global level, not at country level, so is not comparable among countries
